Tuition for the full 4 years. NID and NIFT are government institutes but charge premium fees — NIFT totals about ₹14L across four years. Private design schools are comparable or higher.
Fees change every year and differ by college — confirm with the college before paying. Scholarships can cover much of this.
Who can apply
Passed Class 12 in ANY stream — Science, Commerce or Arts — usually with 50% aggregate. You do not need Maths or Science for most design programmes.
How to apply
UCEED for the IITs (uceed.iitb.ac.in), NID DAT for the National Institutes of Design (admissions.nid.edu), and the NIFT entrance for fashion (nift.ac.in). These are aptitude and drawing tests rather than syllabus exams, and they are extremely competitive — NID offers only a few hundred B.Des seats nationally, so apply to several institutes.

UCEED / NID DAT / NIFT is run by IIT Bombay, National Institute of Design, and NIFT respectively and leads to B.Des programmes in product, communication, fashion and interaction design.
